How an Exness Session Ends
Signing out, going idle, signing in somewhere else, changing a password: four endings, and only some of them actually close access.
Open Exness Account →Ending a session and leaving the screen are not the same event. Signing out closes the Personal Area session on that device; a long idle period asks for the password again; a sign-in on a second device adds a session rather than replacing one; and changing the Personal Area password leaves the separate trading-platform password untouched. One check settles all four: ask for the sign-in screen again and see whether it asks for anything.
Four ways a session ends
Access ends differently depending on which of the four happened, and the difference matters because two of them leave something still open.
- You sign out deliberately. The Personal Area session on that device ends and the sign-in screen comes back.
- You go idle for a long stretch. Portal sessions do not stay open indefinitely, so the password is asked for again, while the account itself carries on: positions and pending orders are held on the server, not in your session.
- You sign in on another device. Treat that as an additional session rather than a replacement for the first, which ends when it is signed out or when it expires.
- You change the Personal Area password. That password stops working, and the separate MT4 or MT5 password does not change with it, so a terminal already connected keeps its own credential until that one is changed too.
How to be sure the session is actually over
The only reliable confirmation is the sign-in screen. After signing out, ask for the Personal Area again on the same device: if the credentials are requested, the session is finished, and if the dashboard appears, it is not.
Then do the same check for the trading platform, separately. Because the platform password is set apart from the Personal Area password, the two answers can differ, and the terminal is the one people forget to ask.
Why two passwords make this confusing
The Personal Area password opens the portal. Each trading account has its own MT4 or MT5 password, set separately inside that portal. Signing out of the portal therefore does nothing to a terminal that is already connected: it authenticated with the other credential and is not watching the portal.
The same split explains a reset that seems not to have worked. Resetting the portal password by email changes the portal password only. Where the intention was to cut off a terminal, the platform password is the one to change, and it is changed from inside the Personal Area.
Stopping work and ending a session are different events
A session does not end because you stopped looking at it. Nothing on the account is aware that you got up: the portal is waiting, the terminal is connected and the server is holding whatever was open. Ending the session is a separate action from finishing the work.
That is better as a habit than as a rule. Finish the task, sign out, then ask for the page again and confirm that credentials are requested. It takes a few seconds and it removes the whole class of “I thought I had signed out”.
A two-minute check when you are not sure
- Ask for the Personal Area again on this device and see whether the password is requested.
- Open the trading platform and see whether it is still connected to an account.
- If the terminal is connected and should not be, change the platform password from inside the Personal Area.
- If the portal password is the one you want retired, change that separately: the two are different changes.
Two passwords, two checks. Doing one and assuming the other is where most of the surprises come from.
What each ending actually closes
| What happened | What it closes | What is still open |
|---|---|---|
| You signed out of the Personal Area | That portal session on that device | A trading terminal already connected with the platform password |
| You were idle for a long stretch | The portal asks for credentials again | Positions and pending orders, which are held on the server |
| You signed in on a second device | Nothing, on its own | The first session, until it is signed out or expires |
| You changed the Personal Area password | Access with the old portal password | The separate MT4 or MT5 password, which is changed on its own |
Two passwords means two answers: the Personal Area and the trading platform are checked separately.
